As I write in the classroom with students and see the joy on their faces when sharing, I know that real learning is taking place. Each child is engaged in bringing out with voice and clarity that which they to reveal to their audience. Using Douglas Florian as our mentor text, the children capitalized on their science research, using details from their specific insect as to why they wouldn’t want to be that insect. Word choice, organization, details … poetry and so much more. Our Classroom Common Core with differentiation at its peak, demanding and yet inviting.
